This article provides instructions on how users who completed Experian identity proofing during EPCS registration can reset their EPCS passphrase (password to e-prescribe controlled substances), using the Forgot Passphrase link on the web site.
- Note: If you received a lockout notice, any actions related to EPCS will receive the Authentication Failed, Access is denied error during the lockout period.
1. Go to https://ui.epcsdrfirst.com/pob/login
2. Select Forgot Passphrase under Sign in.
3. Enter your NPI number.
4. Enter your hard or soft token's entire Serial Number (S/N) or Credential ID, including the letters without spaces or dashes from your active token.

5. Click Continue.
6. Click the Select Token dropdown menu and select your token brand.
7. Enter the email address associated with your account (EPCS Registration Email).
8.Enter the one-time-password (OTP) from your token.
9. Click Continue.
10. You will receive an email to reset your password. The subject of the email is Prescriber reset passphrase notification.
11. Click the Reset Passphrase Link provided in that email. You will be redirected to the Reset Passphrase page.
12. Enter your NPI number.
13. Enter your token's entire Serial Number (S/N) or Credential ID, including the letters without spaces or dashes.

14. Click Continue.
15. Click the Select Token dropdown menu and select your token brand.
16. Enter your OTP from your active token.
17. Click Continue.
18. You will be prompted to answer the Security Question that you initially set up during the EPCS registration process. Enter the Security Answer, then click Continue.
Note: Security answers are case sensitive.
Note: If you don't remember the Security Answer to your security question, please submit a ticket/request. We will send you a new EPCS registration link, where you will need to complete registration again and create a new passphrase.
19. Enter a New Passphrase, then retype it next to the Confirm New Passphrase field. Click Continue when finished. Your new password must adhere to the following requirements:
- 8-20 characters
- at least 1 upper case letter
- at least 1 number
- no more than 2 consecutive uses of the same character
- avoid special characters
